The Securities Act of 1933 was adopted May 27, 1933, ch. 38, title I, §1, of the 73rd Congress; compiled at 48 Stat. 74; and codified as 15 U.S.C. 77a to 77bbbb.
It was enacted in response to the glaring deficiencies in US financial market regulation which caused the market crash of 1929 and the subsequent Great Depression.
